I started my CrossFit journey about 3 years ago, and had to stop for a short while, but could not stay away long. From the time I took the first class I knew this was different and more exciting than anything I had ever done before in the athletic domain. I considered myself fairly athletic and was very active in all kinds of sports growing up, but the WODs quickly made me realize there is so much more to being fit. Most of my training or fitness came from just going to the gym and lifting weights with my headphones blaring music and just being in a world of my own. That style of training lacked what I loved so much about sports growing up: the camaraderie, the competition, the team atmosphere, and CrossFit reignited those old feelings. It allowed me to grow as a person. I was able to check my ego and to feel happy when I was able to get a new skill or hit a PR. The coaches at Yards were, and are awesome, knowledgeable and caring people, so naturally I knew I wanted to become a coach there. I wanted to give to others what they gave to me. The environment here is amazing because you are able to build relationships that go past just “working out”. The cheers and encouragement are always the loudest for the last person to finish. It’s a place where not only the equipment and hard work build you up, but the relationships and people do as well. It’s more than just a “gym”, it is a community of individuals striving for wellness and fitness very much like the teams I was part of in my youth. I welcome anyone of any age, height, weight, or skill level to come and just try a class. I bet you will be hooked.
